It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Joseph Schech (aka Billy), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. William left this world on March 1, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
As the son of Frederick and Myrtle Schech, he grew up on Dudley Avenue with his siblings Dottie, Glen (and his wife Pat), and the late Ed and Beverly. He was known for his devotion to family, dedication to working hard and he left a special touch in the lives of everyone he met.
William was a devoted husband to Joyce Schech (nee Lanier) and a loving father to Michael Schech, Michelle Merritt and her husband Ed, and Melissa Storz and her husband Bob. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, always putting their needs above his own. His grandchildren Alex, Andrea, Breanna, Trevor, Seth and Zoe brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He will also be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law, Arvin Lanier and his wife Betsy, and Ray Lanier and his wife Jennifer, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his family, William was deeply involved in the community. Whether it was the Edgemere Moose Lodge, coaching his son's baseball teams or helping family/friends with some construction project; he approached everything with passion and dedication. His legacy of kindness, generosity and hard work will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Though William is no longer with us, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Family will receive visitors at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on March 7, 2025 from 5-9 PM and on Saturday from 10-11AM. A funeral service celebrating Billy's life will be held Saturday at 11AM. Interment will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ark Seaford Wesleyan Church, 26630 Sussex Highway, Seaford, DE 19973.
