William Scott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ballard Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2026.
William "Willy" Scott passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, and Parkinson's disease. Willy was born April 27, 1959 and was raised in Cody Wyoming, and remained rooted in the place he loved until his final days.

Growing up in God's country shaped the man he became. From an early age, he developed a deep love for the outdoors that never left him. He was built for the rugged Wyoming life - strong, steady, and at home in the elements. He loved hunting, horses, and camping beneath Wyoming's vast sky. He spent weeks at a time high above Cody on "Top of the World," also known as Monument Hill, living in hunting camp with his horses. That mountain life wasn't just something he did - it was who he was.

Willy loved guns and the traditions of the West, carrying a deep respect for the land and wildlife. Some of his happiest hours were spent taking long drives with a Coca-Cola and chocolate at his side, scanning the hills for elk and deer, losing himself in endless weekends of wildlife watching. He didn't need much - just open country and the freedom to roam.

He spent many years working on the oil rigs, where he built a reputation as strong, dependable, and hardworking. He worked until retirement, embodying what can only be described as true grit.

Later in life, he married Jayne Scott. Their marriage brought companionship and partnership, and she faithfully stood beside him through the difficult years of his illness.

Though dementia slowly took pieces of his memory, it never erased the strength of his spirit or the impact he made on those who loved him. In his final months, he became an especially cherished grandfather to Braelynn Barkman. Willy and Braelynn spent hours playing dress-up, cowboy and Indians, and filling their days with laughter. Those moments were a blessing to our family and will forever be treasured.

He loved his nieces and nephews fiercely and held deep pride in his family.

Willy will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his grit, his love of the land, and the steady presence he brought into our lives.

He is survived by his wife, Jayne Scott; his step-daughters, Michele Robles and Eileen Flory; his granddaughter, Braelynn Barkman; his brothers, Larry Scott and Howard Scott; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
