William Simmons Obituary

William V. "Bill" Simmons, Jr., a dedicated former Fire Chief and cherished member of the Virginia Beach community, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on July 16, 1936, in Princess Anne County, Virginia Beach, Bill lived a life marked by service, camaraderie, and love.

Throughout his distinguished career as a Fire Chief, Bill exemplified leadership and commitment to public safety. His role in the fire department was not only a vocation but also a lifelong passion that shaped his character and his community.

In his personal life, Bill found joy in simple pleasures, notably sharing breakfast with his fellow firefighters at Mary's Kitchen. These gatherings were a testament to his enduring friendships and his warm, generous spirit.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ruth Simmons; his son, Bill Simmons; his sister, Virginia Jessup; and his brother, Tommy Simmons. Bill's legacy lives on through his daughter, Wanda Odango, and her husband, Rick; his grandchildren, Sydney, Tina, Paige, Toni and her husband, Jeffrey; and his great-grandchildren, Hartley Honey, Charlie Rose, Killian, and Rhydian. He is also survived by his nieces, Cindy, Leilani, and Laura Lee; and his nephew, Jimmy.

Bill will be laid to rest alongside his wife at Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family invites friends, colleagues, and community members to offer their condolences and share memories of Bill online at www.altmeyer.com. In Bill's passing, we remember a man who dedicated his life to serving others and whose legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
