William (Billy) Simon passed away October 25, 2024 at Montifiore Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness.
He was born August 29, 1946, and was the son of the late Leonard and Marie Lastoria Simon.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Daugherty Simon and they were married for fifty- four years. He is also survived by his son Aaron William Simon.
Billy served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War Era. He was a member of the VFW as well as the Duca degli Abruzzi.
He worked in the Steel Industry for most of his career. He started as a laborer and worked his way up to Sales Manager and then Plant Manager. After retiring, he worked part time for Lowes in many different departments. With his management, sales, and customer service background he was always able to relate well to customers as well as other employees. Customers would seek him out due to his kindness, knowledge of the products and eagerness to help.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He hunted and fished and enjoyed hanging out with family and friends. The thing that gave him the most joy was any time he spent with his son. They shared a special bond. From coaching his little league baseball team as a child to watching him play softball as an adult. He also loved vacationing with his family and friends.
Billy loved helping people, from getting family members and friends jobs, to just offering help any time someone was in need. He was the kind of friend everybody would want.
He was known to his nieces Kylie and Leo as UB. He was a history buff and they would call him when they were in school with all their history questions. There wasn't much he didn't know.
Besides his wife and son, Billy is survived by brother Leonard Simon Jr (Maryetta), Sister Camille Buchowski (Jim), Brothers-in- law, Joseph Daugherty III (Michelle), and Dale Daugherty. Sister-in-law Cathy Jo Daugherty, as well as several nieces and nephews who he treated as his own. Billy was the best-in-law a family could have, loving them dearly just as they loved him.
He will be so deeply missed and forever loved by his wife and son who he adored. His sister and brother and other family members will forever love the person he was. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends' co-workers and others who knew him.
Besides his parents Billy was also preceded in death by his father-in-law Joseph Daugherty Jr and mother-in-law Irene Daugherty.
A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the family at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Benjamin Barr will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.
Interment will be in Parkside Cemetery.
