William Brown Smith

William Brown Smith, 88, of Mount Pleasant, passed away, Sunday January 18, 2026 at Atrium Health-Cabarrus.

Funeral services will be held 3pm, Friday January 23 at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, in the sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Earl Bradshaw. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Smith family will receive friends from 1-3 prior to the service in the Lighthouse worship center.

William was born in Cabarrus County, October 30, 1937, to the late Paul B.C. and Goldie Herring Smith. He was a long time member of Mount Pleasant Methodist Church. William attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. After graduation, he worked for Concord Telephone Company and retired as Chief Engineer. During his working career, he was a member of the North Carolina Telephone Association and the US Telephone Association. William enjoyed woodworking and spending time outdoors, fishing and gold panning. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Kay Mullis Smith and sisters Althea Wellman, Peggy Drye, and Betty Honeycutt.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Smith and his sons, Daron (Jenny Krall), Phillip (Lisa) and Jeffery (Kimberly); and a total of 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
