William Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maupin Funeral Home - Fulton on Mar. 5, 2026.
William Lewis "Bill" Smith, 83, of Fulton, passed away on March 5, 2026 at his home surrounded by the love of his family.

Bill was born on September 23, 1942, in St. Charles, Missouri, to the late Edson B. Smith and the late Dorothy (Jones) Nichols.

On September 15, 1962, he was united in marriage to Bonnie (Rogers) Smith. Together they shared nearly 64 years of marriage, building a life centered around faith, family, and service to their community.

Bill dedicated 40 years of service to the Fulton Fire Department, where he faithfully served the community and eventually retired as Fire Chief. His leadership, dedication, and commitment to protecting others left a lasting impact on the department and the community he proudly served.

Bill was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church in Fulton, where he faithfully served as a deacon and was active in the church for many years. He served on numerous committees and also helped with the construction of the church's new building. Bill's faith was very important to him. He also participated in a mission trip through Heartland Community Church in Northeast Missouri, an experience that reflected his servant's heart and dedication to helping others. In addition, Bill was a member of the Men of Integrity Bible Study at First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed fellowship and growing in his faith with others.

Outside of his work and church, Bill loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting and took great pride in teaching all of his children those traditions.

Bill will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his community, and his strong faith. Those that remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Bonnie; sons, William D. Smith (Jennifer) of Booneville, Darryl W. Smith of Fulton; brother, Edson Smith (Joy) of Price, TX; grandchildren, Caytlyn Smith Hermann (Cameron), Zachary W. Smith (Natalie Fries), and bonus granddaughters, Megan and Mariah Dasczynski.

Along with parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Dana K. Smith.

Funeral services will be held at Southside Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Tyler Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be held in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Southside Baptist Church, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Blvd, Fulton, MO 65251.
