William F. Spilewski, 69, of
Hanson, MA, passed away on December 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born with a deep appreciation for the natural world, Bill lived his life with a gentle spirit, a curious mind, and a pair of capable hands that could fix just about anything. He worked as a custodian at Halifax Elementary School for 35 years, where his steady presence, kindness, and quiet dedication touched generations of students and staff.
Bill was an avid organic gardener who nurtured his plants with the same patience and care he gave to the people in his life. He loved fishing, biking, camping, and spending time outdoors-anywhere he could feel connected to nature. A true tinkerer, he was always working on a project and always had the exact tool or part someone needed. He never hesitated to lend a hand or share his knowledge.
Bill is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sonja Spilewski, and his three daughters, whom he cherished deeply: Cynthia McGrath of Norton, MA, wife of Shawn Glauben and mother to Andreas McGrath and Annaliese Glauben; Jennifer Poirier of Carver, MA, mother of Valerie Poirier; and Allison Spilewski of
Hanson, MA, mother of Dylan Merrick. He was lovingly known as Papa to his grandchildren, who adored him and will carry his warmth and gentle wisdom in their hearts. Bill was also a fatherly figure to many others, offering guidance, support, and the steady kindness that defined him.
He is survived by his siblings, Ellen Spilewski and Steven Spilewski of Mansfield, MA. His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, extended family, and the many people whose lives he touched with generosity and quiet strength.
Memorial visitation to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 1–4 PM at Sullivan Funeral Homes in
Hanson, MA. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
