William Edward Stanley, Jr. passed away on October 15, 2025, at Ascension/St. Vincent's Hospital. Bill was 99 years old.
Bill was born in Chicago, IL on September 11, 1926, to William Edward Stanley, Sr. and Lois Marie Slayton Stanley. He was the oldest of 2 children. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University in 1948. He met his wife, Mary Louis Olsen at Cornell. They were married on August 15, 1948.
He was hired by Standard Oil of Indiana in 1948, where he worked as a Chemical Engineer, at the refinery in Whiting, IN. As he moved up the corporate ladder, he became responsible for the computer hub at the refinery. He retired from Amoco in the early 1990s.
He and Mary Lou raised 3 children near the small town of Crete, IL. They traveled extensive in the U.S. as a family while the children were growing up. Once they had both retired, they traveled the world visiting all the continents at least once. They moved to Marquette Manor in Indianapolis where they became active members working in the woods and in the community, including the Nature Conservancy and ScienTech. He enjoyed rock collecting, running, skiing, hiking and having a sip of bourbon now and then.
He is survived by his children: Glen Eric Stanley, Craig Allen Stanley (Lynn Marschke Stanley) and Linda Stanley Scheve (Carl Paff); his grandchildren: Heather Marie Evans (Kirk Evans), Jon William Stanley (Erica Crossman), Scott Edward Scheve and William Matthew Scheve; his great grandchildren: Malik Reese, Jalen Reese, Isaiah Reese, Kason Stanley, Aurelya Stanley, Mylah Stanley and Collin Evans.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cremation Society of Indiana, 4115 Shelby St Indianapolis. Please leave a message or share a memory.
