William "Bittle" Steele, 104 years old, of Tazewell, VA, formerly of Iaeger, WV, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at the Dogwood Crossing Senior Living Facility in Tazewell, VA.
Bittle was born October 29, 1921 in Sandy Huff, WV a son of the late Harrison and Louise Vance Steele. Bittle was a WW II U. S. Army Veteran and fought in the Battle of the Budge. Bittle was also a retired coal miner, a member of the U.M.W.A., and a member of the Iaeger Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Harrison and Louise Steele, Bittle was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lawson Steele; five brothers, Acy, Dave, Anse, Boyd, and Estil Steele; and two sisters, Ethel Wimmer and Myrtle Shirley.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jean Short of Coeburn, VA; two sons, Harrison Wayne Steele and wife Kay of Coeburn, VA and Johnny Darrell Steele and wife Barbara of Bluefield, WV; one sister, Rosa Gabriel of Greenwood, NY; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Saturday, November 8, 2025 with Pastor Tony Reed officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV, where military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 1144 and the West Virginia Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, Saturday morning, November 8, 2025 from 10 o'clock until the time of services at 11.
