Bill Steib, 84, passed away peacefully at home in Chesapeake, Virginia on February 22, 2026. He died of pulmonary fibrosis. Bill was born on May 31, 1941 in Maple City, Michigan to Francis Willard Dechow (née Dago) and Queenie Bolton. He grew up in Michigan, attending Mt. Pleasant High School before joining the U.S. Navy in 1958. The Navy provided him with a chance to see the world and to further his education, and he proudly served for 21 years. His second career was with ManTech International until retiring in 1999.

Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eva Jo Roberts Steib, daughters Laura (Peter) Pommerenk and Tracy (Chris) Thomas, grandchildren Emily Thomas, Sebastian Pommerenk, Alexander Pommerenk, Abigail Thomas, Sophia Pommerenk, and brother John Steib, Jr. and sister Marylou Ellis. Survivors also include his nieces and nephews Laura Steib, Deborah Laforet, Brian Steib, Harry Steib, Stephanie Engler, Jeff Steib, Jody Ibarguen, John Halladay, Marybeth Ford. He was predeceased by brothers George Dechow, Harry Steib, and James Steib.

Bill loved being a grandpa and will always be known to his grandkids as PawPaw. In his retirement, he attended his grandkids' many activities as cheerleader and fan. He enjoyed reading, photography, golfing, history, and researching his genealogy. Bill was a great cook, loved good beer and brewing beer, created beautiful oil paintings, and had a lot of fun driving his Morgan Plus-4 Roadster. Bill completed his first DALMAC bicycle tour in 1991 in his home state of Michigan. For most of the next 30 years, he returned for the annual event, biking the 350-mile, 5-Day West route. Many family members and friends joined him over the years making lifelong memories.

Bill's wishes were to be cremated with no service. Oman Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
