LIMA -- William Stein, age 95, passed away on February 9, 2026, at 7:20 pm, at Primrose Retirement Community of Lima.
William was born on June 12, 1930, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Irwin and Mary (Goldman) Stein. On August 3, 1953, he married Maryellen (Harris) Stein, who preceded him in death on January 11, 2011.
After graduating from Glenville High School in Cleveland, William attended The Ohio State University where he played in the marching band. He obtained both his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from The Ohio State University, and then soon after took a job as a band director at Lima Senior High School. He then taught band at Shawnee High School. William played clarinet in the Lima Area Concert Band and the Lima Symphony, and he was a member of Lima Noon Sertoma, the Lima Noon Optimist Club, and was also a member on the Lima Area Youth Orchestra board. He was also very active in the Temple Beth Israel- Shaare Zedek, where he served on the board of directors.
William is survived by his son, David (Carolyn) Stein, his daughter, Nancy (Don) Strayer, his grandson, Andrew (Michelle) Stein, his granddaughter, Elizabeth Stein, and his four great-grandchildren: Zachary, Hannah, Abigail, and Eleanor Stein.
Services will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Shawnee Chapel. Rabbi Daniel Betzel will officiate. Burial will be in Shaare Zedek Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Shawnee Chapel.
Memorial contributions in William's honor may be made to the Lima Symphony Orchestra: 1028 W Market St, Lima, OH 45805 or to Temple Israel-Shaare Zedek: 2105 Lakewood Ave, Lima, OH 45805.
