William Stewart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Mar. 3, 2026.
William Dale Eyre Stewart, 94, of Cedar Hills, Utah passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. Dale was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born on June 28, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Theodore and Callie Stewart. He was the oldest of two children.

Dale was raised in the Salt Lake City, Utah area, but his family relocated to St. George, where he later enrolled in the National Guard. In August of 1950, his unit was called into active duty to serve in the Korean War. He left for Korea in January 1951 and served there until February of 1952. Dale was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his meritorious service while acting as a Master Sergeant for the 213th Field Artillery Battalion from October 10, 1951, to February 5, 1952. He was honorably discharged upon his return to the states.

Dale went on to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chicago, IL. Dale was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the Elders Quorum President for many years. He enjoyed studying genealogy and visiting the temple after his retirement.

Dale worked as State Correctional Officer at the Utah State Prison and then later transferred to working as a counselor to inmates released into a halfway house. Dale was known for loving to play a game of pool at the halfway house, giving his opponents the advantage by him using a broomstick, but he would still beat them.

Dale married the girl next door, Janet Lee Kemp, on April 8, 1966. They moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah in 1971 where they would live out the remainder of their lives together.

Dale is survived by his children; Paul (Laurie) Stewart of Marion, Montana, Ann (William) Curry of Cedar Hills, Utah, and Lynette (Ryan) Kling of Summerville, SC; 11 grandchildren and more than 20 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jan, his parents, his brother, Wally Stewart, and son, Randie Stewart.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife and son. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com
