William Sullivan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann on Dec. 2, 2025.
William Ross Sullivan (Bill) died on November 26 at home. He was born January 12, 1941, in Knoxville to the late Joseph William Sullivan, Jr. and the late Lawson McClung Ross Sullivan.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Kay Stevenson Sullivan; son William Ross Sullivan, Jr. and wife Carey Buckley Sullivan; daughter Lawson McGhee Sullivan Wetli and husband Lance Patrick Wetli; and grandchildren Ross Anthony Vicario, William Ross Sullivan III, Corinne Anna Vicario, and Sarah McGhee Sullivan.

He loved the great outdoors and hiking with family and friends, including 45 trips up Mount Le Conte and many rim-to-rim Grand Canyon hikes. He studied botany, ornithology, and geology to add to his wonder of the natural world. Bill was perhaps the oldest student pilot in the world. A retired ophthalmologist, he touched many lives, both personally and professionally. He loved and was loved powerfully.

There will be a private celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Second Presbyterian Church, 2829 Kingston Pike 37919 or the charity of your choice.
