William C. "Bill" Swinty, 73, of Honey Brook, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Bryn Mawr Hospital with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Reali) Swinty, sharing 45 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia on March 26, 1952, he was the son of the late Henry Swinty and Doris (Neubauer) Swinty. Bill graduated from Father Judge Catholic High School with the class of 1970. After high school, he joined the USMC Reserves. Upon finishing Basic Training, he joined the Philadelphia Police Department. In 1980 he entered La Salle University and obtained his bachelor's degree. While at La Salle, Bill joined the Army ROTC program and became an Officer. During his time in the military, he served in Desert Storm as part of the 304th Civil Affairs Unit. Bill loved his country and was a proud patriot. He took pride in serving his country and community. He had a successful career as a Philadelphia Police Officer, and enjoyed working with his dogs for 10 years in the K9 unit.
Following retirement, Bill didn't slow down one bit and took up many hobbies that always kept him on the go. He had a large collection of books, guns and antiques, and liked spending time at the gun range. He was the event planner and organizer of the family trip to Cape May where he went whale watching, despite maybe not actually ever seeing a whale. He drove school bus for the West Chester School District, and he loved his job as a parking lot attendant at the American Music Theater in Lancaster. One of his pastimes was woodworking, and he used those skills to create and then donate boards to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. He even made the trip up to New York to drop the boards off himself. Rather than spend the day relaxing at home, Bill often took trips to Philadelphia to pick up Stocks Cakes, cream donuts, butter cake or stop at the German grocery. Most of all, he had a great sense of humor, was a jokester, was a devoted father and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife Tricia are his daughters Lauren Swinty of Honey Brook, and Michelle Alexander, wife of Christopher, of Honey Brook; grandchildren Mackenzie, Blake, Gabriel, Colin, Caleb and Liam; sisters Diane DePalmo-Ryan, wife of Joe, Donna Contando, wife of Alex, sister-in-law Kathleen Ponto; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Swinty.
