Our beloved Dad, William Edward “Ted” Hunter passed away peacefully at home in Logan, Utah, on September 7, 2022, after struggling with various health issues.

Dad will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of a good joke, even at his own expense.

Dad was born on March 6, 1933, to Gilbert Walker Hunter and Maud Maynard Hunter in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the youngest of five children. Although christened William Edward, he was known and loved as “Ted” his entire life. William E. was solely used for official signatures. Dad attended Rigby High School in Rigby, Idaho, graduating in 1951. Dad graduated from BYU in 1955, and it was during his junior year that he met the love of his life, Jane Ann Packham, in the BYU Madrigals. They dated and were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 3, 1955. Ted and Jane Ann were the proud parents of four children, Kathryn, Christopher, David, and Gregory.

Mom and Dad loved singing together and were always asked to perform duets at all the family gatherings. Mom was the star of the show, and Dad was happy to take a supporting role to let our mother shine. Dad’s love and support for our mother never wained. Dad loved the stage and received a best actor award at BYU for his performance in “The Glass Menagerie,” and Dad played opposite Mom in the leading roles of Anna and the King in “The King and I” in Idaho Falls while raising a young family.

Dad worked for 40 years as a manager for the J.C. Penney Company. He managed stores in Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Salt Lake City, and retired as a District Manager in Sanger, California in 1997. Mom and Dad relocated to Logan, Utah, in 2005, and quickly became fixtures in the neighborhood and community. Mom passed away suddenly in 2008, and after two years of loneliness, he found love again in meeting and marrying Iona Corlee Clark on July 17, 2010. Dad and Corlee had a wonderful 12 years together.

Dad loved board games, especially those that involved words - Scrabble being his favorite. At any family gathering, the game would come out and so would the groans and eye-rolls, but Dad would eventually land a foursome, and play was accompanied by lots of fun and laughter. His ace-in-the-hole word was “quo” to which our mother would say while reading from the couch, ”It’s not a word, Ted!” Dang those Q’s are hard to play!

Dad was a faithful member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership capacities, including Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, and First Counselor in a Bishopric.

Dad is survived by his beloved wife, Corlee, his children, Kathryn, Chris (Sandi), David (Cheryl), and Greg (Becki), as well as fifteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren, with one on the way! He was preceded in death by his beloved Jane Ann, his parents, siblings (Ruth, Reed, Vaughn, and Jean), and his grandson Nicholas Tenney. A public viewing will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan, Utah, on Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the Foothill 2nd Ward, 1450 E. 1500 N., Logan, Utah, with a viewing preceding the service from 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to neighbors, ward members, and caregivers for their love and support of our Dad, especially during his final weeks.
