It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of William C. “Bill” Thomas, age 69, who passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Carthage on May 27, 1956, to the late Kenneth W. and Emily (Doolen) Thomas, Bill was a 1974 graduate of Carthage High School. An accomplished athlete, he was Carthage’s first Section III. Wrestling Champion and a dedicated football player for both Carthage and the Watertown Red & Black team, for which he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Bill worked for Brookside Cemetery alongside his father and Thomas Sandpit before retiring as a Heavy Equipment Operator from the NY Power Authority in 2005.
Bill married Mona R. Ventiquattro on August 31, 2002. Together, they found great joy in riding motorcycles, and Bill spent much of his time woodworking in his shop.
He is survived by his siblings, Kenneth (Deanna) Thomas, Douglas Thomas, Sr., Beverly (Charlie) Thompson, Maureen Lavancha, Karen Taylor, and David Thomas; his late wife Mona’s children, who he considered his own, Patricia (Michael) Mandigo and Antonia Ventiquattro-Bailey (Jeffrey Turck); five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his special nephew, James (Heidi) Taylor. He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth & Emily and his wife Mona Thomas, his infant daughter Angel, and his brother Dale and nephew, David Taylor.
