William Tiernan Obituary

William C. Tiernan, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 16. Bill was born in Greenwich Village at St. Vincent's Hospital on August 10, 1949. He was raised in Stuyvesant Town in New York City and Waldwick, NJ.

Bill was a proud graduate of St. Luke's High School in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. While at Merrimack he met the love of his life and best friend, Bernadette (nee Brunhuber). They married in 1974 and settled in Ridgewood, NJ.

He began a successful sales career with the Johnson & Johnson Patient Care Division before going on to work in television advertising sales. For twenty years he worked at Harrington, Righter & Parsons (HRP) and TeleRep, Inc. in New York City. Later in life, he retired and worked part-time at Fisher Auto Parts.

Bill was a loving father and active community member in Ridgewood, NJ. He was a Little League coach, served as President of the Ridgewood Junior Football Association, and was a member of the Ridgewood High School Football Scholarship Committee.

He was an avid Mets and Yankees fan - yes, you read that right - but he rooted for the Mets in a Subway Series. He was a lifelong Giants fan and was still hoping beyond hope that someone in that organization gets it right once again.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, he was preceded in death by his parents William C. Tiernan, Sr and Vivian (nee Born). He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bernadette (nee Brunhuber); daughter Katherine (Brendan) McCahill; son William Tiernan III; daughter Caroline (Dane) Jorgensen; grandchildren Elizabeth McCahill, Abby McCahill, Timmy Jorgensen, Liam Jorgensen, and Douglas Jorgensen; along with his sister Jane Tiernan of Stamford, brother Robert (Lorie) Tiernan, sisters-in-law Vicki (Michael) Quigley; Kathleen Appleton; Regina (John) Burke; and 10 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Catholic Charities of Newark. (https://ccannj.org/). A wake will be held Thursday, 3/19 from 4-8 pm at Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood with a funeral on Friday, 3/20 at 10 am at Our Lady Mount Carmel in Ridgewood.
