William John Tipton

William John Tipton, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in Jarvisburg, NC, after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 25, 1955, to the late William Joseph Tipton and Sue Tipton. A U.S. Marine Corp veteran who served his country in the 1970's, William, or Johnny as he was known, later moved to the Outer Banks seeking peace and solitude. A complicated and fiercely independent man, he found comfort on the water and in the quiet spaces that allowed him to simply be. Johnny had a talented mechanical mind, fascinating his family with his rooms of model airplanes and intricate military dioramas. He was also a skilled and experienced electrician, who worked all over the beach, providing his services for over 40 years.
A long-time resident of the Outer Banks, Johnny is survived by three siblings, Barbara Tipton Olds, Meg Boden, and Pat Tipton; a nephew, Sean Olds; and a niece, Sarah Tipton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lori Tipton, and by his nephew, Nathan West.
