William Tonn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home on Feb. 19, 2026.
William "Will" Michael Tonn, 51, of Charles City, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 PM at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Will was born on Good Friday, April 12, 1974, in Charles City to William E. and Christine K. (Vandeventer) Tonn. He attended school in Charles City and continued his education in Antioch, California. He graduated from WyoTech as a motorcycle technician.

He worked in security for a while before joining the Brinks Armored Car Company servicing ATMs. He felt honored to protect the "World Cup" while it was in San Francisco. He later returned to Iowa and lived in New Hampton where he worked.

In 2019 he had a stroke and then a year later he discovered he had kidney cancer. He continued his cancer treatments until the beginning of this year when he made the difficult decision to end his treatments. Even through all his various health issues he continued to give his all.

He truly loved his friends and his family and would talk to everyone. He seemed to know everyone by name at Hy-Vee and no matter where he went he was always outgoing and treated everyone as a friend.

He was an avid Raiders fan for more than 35 years. He collected Raiders, Star Wars and Harry Potter memorabilia. You could tell that his favorite holiday was Halloween as he kept his Halloween decorations up all year.

He is survived by his mother, Chris; sister Susan (Israel) Gomez; nephew Andrew (Jasmine) Gurule; niece Angelia (Zach) Fiser; great nieces Aaralynn, Jayden, Aryana; great nephews Michael, Kaysen, Ezeria, Mark, Ares, Mateo, and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, an aunt, and several uncles.
