William Walton Obituary

Honorable William "Todd" Walton, II, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Todd was born June 12, 1955, in Lexington, Kentucky, to William "Bill" Todd Walton and Barbara Hutchinson Walton.

He graduated from Fleming County High School before earning his B.A. from the University of Kentucky in 1979 and his J.D. from Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1983. Admitted to the Kentucky Bar that same year, he began his law career practicing alongside his father, Bill Walton, Tom MacDonald, and Lloyd MacDonald, later forming MacDonald, Walton & Razor.

In 1995, Todd was elected District Court Judge for the 19th Judicial Circuit (Bracken, Fleming, and Mason Counties), a position to which voters returned him in 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2010. Early in his judgeship, with the assistance of his Administrative Assistant, Brenda Donahue, he established the Bu alo Trace CASA program to advocate for children in his district. His dedication earned him recognition including the 1998 Stand Up for Children, A Child's Voice in Court Award and the 2003 Champion for Children Public O cial Award. He was a Fellow of the Kentucky Bar Foundation.

Todd also served his community in many ways, including on the Fleming County Hospital Board (1985–1994) and the Fleming County Judicial Center Project Development Board. A lifelong member of Flemingsburg Christian Church, he faithfully served as a youth leader, substitute Sunday School teacher, Deacon and ultimately Elder.

Upon retirement, Todd found joy in improving Grange City Farms, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, whether at home, on family trips, or during winters in Florida. He was also known for his love of music, especially his favorite band, YES; his admiration of his favorite race car driver, Bill Elliott; and for the constant companionship of his beloved dog, George, who was far more than just a man's best friend. Todd's favorite color was orange, something he proudly displayed through his well-loved Kubota tractor.

Todd was deeply rooted in his faith and his community, always seeking ways to serve others and give back to the place he called home. Todd will be remembered for his integrity, dedication to justice, unwavering faith, and profound love for his family and community.

In 1976, Todd married his high school sweetheart, Robin James Walton, and together they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to three sons: Jason Walton (Amy Plummer-Monaghan), Travis Walton, and Matthew Walton (Jenna Walton). He cherished his six grandchildren: Addison Walton, Anderson Walton, Dylan Walton, Stone Walton, Olivia Walton, and Heartly Walton.

He is also survived by his uncle, Dr. Robert Hutchinson; cousins Julia Hutchinson, John Robert and Lilly Staton; aunt Nancy Hutchinson; his brother-in-law Mike James (Melissa James); and niece Alex Thompson (Miles Thompson), great niece Tatum Thompson and nephew Aaron James.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leslie Walton, and his uncle John Hutchinson.
