William Weaver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
William Roosevelt Weaver Jr., 86, of Versailles, Kentucky, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 2, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, with his loving family by his side. Born April 12, 1939, in Versailles, he was the son of the late William Roosevelt Weaver Sr. and Amanda Tripp. William lived a life defined by service-first to his country as a proud United States Marine, and always to his family, whom he loved without measure.

There was no bigger University of Kentucky Wildcat fan than William, and if it were possible, he would have insisted this obituary be read to the tune of the UK fight song. He was just as devoted to the Miami Dolphins and cheered them on with equal enthusiasm. As much as William loved his teams, he was an even bigger fan of his grandchildren, who held the true championship titles in his heart. Family was what he enjoyed most in life. A close second was his love for Motown music, and right behind that was his love of driving-so much so that if his car keys went missing, the entire household knew there would be a full search party. William could pass three gas stations on the way home from the grocery store, get home, and immediately need to leave again "for just a minute." And if you happened to be with him on one of those trips, plan on being gone a while-because William never met a stranger. Whether at a gas pump, a checkout line, or a stoplight, he was going to talk to you, and you were almost guaranteed to leave knowing his life story and feeling like a friend. One this was undeniable, you simply will not find anyone as upbeat as William Weaver.

William is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Margie Weaver; his children, William Jeffrey (Shannon) Weaver, Michael Ted Weaver, Kristi Marie (Joshua) Weaver, Brandon Lee (Jessica Riley) Watkins, and Melonie (James) Wilkinson, all of Lexington; his grandchildren, William, Kyrah, Isabella, Jeffrey, Jerome Weaver, Keyon Owens, Amanda Porter, and Willis Chambers, Jordan Goldie, Alayna Watkins, Audrey PettyJohn and his great-grandchildren, Kyrie and Remi. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Weaver Sr. and Amanda Tripp, and his sister, Doris Phillips.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home. Visitation will take place the same day beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Services will be officiated by Deacon Victor Moses and Bishop Jason Harris. Burial will be Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, where William will be laid to rest with full military honors. Friends and family are encouraged to leave words of encouragement on William's tribute wall at www.blackburnandward.com.
