William Walter "Bill" Weil, 89, of Golden, Colorado, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Marilyn, who was his devoted companion and travel partner throughout their adventures around the world.
Born and raised in Hammond, Indiana, Bill graduated from Hammond High School before pursuing his passion for engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1958. True to his dream of making Colorado his home, Bill began his career with Martin Company, working as an engineer in the Titan missile guidance checkout group during the height of the space program. His work included a year and a half in California, where he participated in checking and launching missiles, including the first silo launch.
After returning to Colorado and obtaining his Professional Engineering License, Bill joined Coors Brewing Company in 1965, where he would make significant contributions to the beverage industry over the next 24 years. As Director of Container & Electrical Engineering, he led a team of over 125 engineers and technicians and played a pivotal role in developing the aluminum can manufacturing process that revolutionized the industry.
In 1989, Bill embarked on a new chapter as President of Computrol, Inc., a company he founded to design and provide control systems for can end liners. His innovative machines were sold worldwide, giving Bill and Marilyn the opportunity to travel extensively for equipment installation, customer training, and sales. Bill would often joke that he only had to start the sentence "Would you like to go..." before Marilyn would enthusiastically say yes. She would proudly tell others that she "slept with the boss," which is why she got to travel so much.
Bill's gratitude for the education and opportunities Rose-Hulman provided led him to establish a Scholarship Endowment Fund, ensuring future generations of students could benefit from the same quality education that had opened so many doors for him. He took great joy in returning to campus to meet the students his scholarship had helped.
A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Bill attended Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in his later years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children: David Weil (Nancy) and their children Eric (Amy) and Lindsay Bullman (Nick); Brenda Lee and her daughter Jodi (Andrew); and Susan Frazier (Chris) and their children Kelsey (Dalton), Ashlee, and Austin (Aaryn). Bill is great-grandfather of Audrey, Olivia, Eleanor, and Lorelei.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, Lakewood, Colorado.
