William "Will" Duane Wells passed away on Friday July 8th, 2022 at the age of 41after a prolonged battle with depression resulting from a traumatic brain injury.
He is survived by his parents Duane and Darlene Wells and Margaret and Neal
Brown, his siblings Lindsay and Mike Wells and his partner Kaylyn and their
children Aubraella, Harley, and Wesley, his dear friend Liz Abrams, his partner
Alyssa Heilbrunn, and several aunts, uncles and cousins who love him
unconditionally.
Will was a friend to all and admired by everyone who crossed his path. From his
childhood friends in Georgia, VT to those he graduated with at BFA in St. Albans
and Ithaca College to his State of Vermont colleagues and Burlington Bocce
League teammates and everyone in between.
Being Bernie Sanders' biggest fan, Will was a true humanitarian. As a DCF
Benefits Program Specialist he proudly served on the VSEA for 12 years working
hard to improve the lives of his fellow coworkers and Vermonters. He was an
animal lover as well - a long time vegetarian who cheered for the fish when his
family failed to get a catch on their annual camping trips. He had the kindest soul
and always put others first.
Life with Will was an adventure. He loved landscape photography, traveling,
tennis, snowboarding, stand-up paddle boarding, music and dancing. Will lived
fully and fearlessly which occasionally got himself and his friends into some
sticky situations like an unexpected encounter with a dam on a summer tubing
trip down the Winooski River. We will carry on his enthusiastic, funny,
venturesome spirit and always make time for play in his honor.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday July 17th from 6:00pm until 10:00 pm at the St. John's Club in
Burlington, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Brain Injury Association of America at 3057 Nutley Street #805 Fairfax, VA 22031

My heart goes out to Will's family, friends and all who knew him. The world is a much better place because he was in it , and his loss will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched! I had the pleasure of working with Will and getting to know him at BDO over the last 12 years. I will always remember him for his huge heart, infectious smile and quirky sense of humor. He always knew how to make people laugh and lighten the mood, as well as being ready to pitch in and help whenever needed. I greatly admired his work with the Union and the fact that he wasn't afraid to speak up and stand up when things needed change or improvement. We shared that in common, and it warmed my heart to recently learn that he had taken over my quest to make our office an eco friendly and sustainable environment when I retired. My heart is broken to learn of his suffering. It is so like Will to want others to contribute to a cause in his memory. Rest assured, he will not be forgotten. Hugs!

Will and I worked together for several years in Waterbury and he was ALWAYS so funny and brought joy to our office every day. I'll never forget him and had the funniest comments. I got braces as an adult and was expecting my second child at the time. Will looks at me and says, " 16 and pregnant I see" we both laughed so hard and for days, weeks on end joking about it. I loved that had that kind of sense of humor. I was lucky to be able to have time in his life. May the family find peace and comfort in these challenging times. So very sorry for you loss.
