William Frederick Willoughby, Sr., 86, a cherished family man, respected businessman, and beloved member of the Sarcoxie community, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri. Born on April 27, 1939, in Springfield, Missouri, William's life was a testament to the values of hard work, devotion, and kindness.
William, known affectionately as Bill to his friends, was the loving husband of Geraldine May Willoughby. Their enduring romance began when they were united in marriage on June 20, 1958, in Springfield, Missouri. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared sixty-seven years of wonderful memories. Bill was a devoted father to his sons, William and Darrin Willoughby. Alongside his wife, Melanie, William Jr. continued the family tradition in Sarcoxie, as did Darrin with his wife, Josette. Bill took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to William and his wife, Tammii, Brandy Demerly, Bryan, Nicolas, and Noah Willoughby, and his wife, Bailey, as well as his step-granddaughter, Nicole Krantz and eight great-great grandchildren.
The Willoughby family tree extended its branches through several nieces and nephews, all of whom found a role model and friend in Bill. He was a loving brother to Robert Willoughby and his wife, Linda, and to Margaret Baker. His life was enriched by a host of other family and friends, who will remember him fondly. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Willoughby, leaving behind a legacy of love and family unity that will endure.
A man of faith, William was an active member of the Redwood Holiness Church in Sarcoxie. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and comfort throughout his journey. William and Geraldine were also entrepreneurs, owning and operating their trucking company. After selling their business, they continued to work in the industry, transporting local carriers. Bill's dedication to the trucking industry spanned forty-five years, covering countless miles alongside Geraldine, and earning him the respect of his peers for his loyalty and dedication.
William's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends, which was the true highlight of his life. An avid stamp collector, he also had interest in cars and golfing. His kind and faith-filled nature was evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Bill's life was a journey marked by commitment to his loved ones, his faith, and his work. Those who knew him were touched by his generosity and his unwavering spirit.
William's wishes were to be cremated, with no service. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri.
