William Robert "Bob" Wilson III, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at his home in
Smyrna, DE. Born on July 16, 1956 in
Wilmington, DE, Bob lived a life marked by dedication, service, and the love of his family and community.
Bob graduated from Dover High School in 1974 and went on to complete his training at the Delaware State Police Academy on June 14, 1984. His commitment to public service was evident in his long and distinguished career in law enforcement. Bob began as a dispatcher for the Smyrna Police Station in 1981 and climbed the ranks, serving as a patrolman, patrolman first class, corporal, sergeant, and senior sergeant, before retiring as a lieutenant after 30 years of dedicated service.
In addition to his work with the police force, Bob was a lifetime member of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company. His passion for helping others shone through his volunteerism as a fireman, where he held many roles, including the esteemed position of Deputy Chief. Before his time in law enforcement, Bob was a truck driver for U.L. Harman Lumber Company in
Marydel, DE, a job that allowed him to indulge in his love of driving and exploring new places.
Bob's enthusiasm for life extended to his personal interests. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and his love for football was only surpassed by his love for his family.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Debbie Wilson; his daughter, Bobbi Jo Webber, her husband Matthew, and their children Nathan and Natalie; his son, Billy Wilson; his stepsons, Jeremy Simon, his wife Jen, and their children Lexus, Chase, and Cole, and Jason Simon; his sisters, April Merrell and her husband Jim, Michelle Stein and her husband Jim, and Christine Leyva; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Bob was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald and Richard Wilson; his mother, Joan Guzniczak; his stepfather, Walter "Gus" Guzniczak; and his father, William Robert Wilson II.
Bob was known for his courage, intelligence, and analytical mind. These attributes served him well in his professional life and were equally appreciated by his family and friends. His presence brought a sense of security and wisdom to any gathering, and his guidance will be deeply missed.
As we mourn the loss of a man who was a pillar in our lives, we also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. Bob's unwavering commitment to his family, his career, and his community has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire us to live with the same integrity, dedication, and love that he exemplified every day.
