William Wyslick Obituary

William Robert Wyslick
William Robert Wyslick, age 81, of Westport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Born on February 16, 1944, in Norwalk, Connecticut, Bill was a lifelong resident of Westport, a town he loved deeply and proudly called home.
From a young age, Bill understood the value of hard work. He began working for Kowalsky Bros. Construction Company as a teenager and, in 1965, joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478. He often spoke fondly of his boss, who encouraged him to join the union-advice Bill later said was one of the best decisions of his life. After decades of dedicated service, he retired in 2009 and truly enjoyed retirement, embracing each day with gratitude and enthusiasm.
In addition to his career, Bill also served for several years as a Special Police Officer for the Town of Westport, a role he took seriously and with pride.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, John Wyslick and Genevieve "Jennie" Czaplicki, both of Westport.
He is survived by his two devoted daughters, Kelly Wyslick of Westport, Connecticut, and Chrissy Hayes (Joe) of Norwalk, Connecticut; his beloved grandson, Corey Hayes; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Madeline Hayes, of Norwalk. He is also survived by his brother, John Wyslick (Claire) of Hallandale, Florida; his sister, Victoria Slingo of Monroe, Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
Known simply as "Bill" to most, he will be remembered for his kindness, friendliness, and calm, steady presence. He was always up for an adventure-especially a spontaneous day trip to explore somewhere new.
Bill loved the water and felt most at peace by the shore. Summers often found him fishing along the creek at Burying Hill Beach or casting a line from the jetty at Compo Beach. He treasured time on his boat, planning his days by the tides-clamming or crabbing at low tide, water skiing in the bay at high tide-living life exactly the way he wanted to.
Each year, he eagerly anticipated his seasonal trip to Pulaski, New York, where he went salmon fishing with "the guys." Those trips were filled with laughter, friendship, and memories that will be cherished forever.
Above all else, Bill's greatest love was his family. He rarely missed an event-whether it was his daughters' softball games or his grandson's baseball games, you could always find him in the stands, proudly showing up and cheering on those he loved.
Bill became ill in February of 2021, and his health gradually declined. During that time, he was blessed with the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Madeline, who brought him immeasurable joy. Even as dementia caused increasing forgetfulness, he never forgot her-not for a single day.
Dad, we will miss you forever. Thank you for being the very best "Girl Dad."
We love you
