Willie C. Moten, Sr. (a.k.a. Pete, Mr. Pete) was born on January 22, 1932, in Madison County, Tennessee to the late Dovie Epperson McLemore and Rockefeller Moten. He peaceably transitioned into eternal life on August 9, 2025. He was raised and educated in the Bascom community. He was honorably discharged from the Army and completed his High School education at Merry High School on the GI bill after serving his country in Korea with many of his Army buddies: Jessie Brown, Elvon Deberry, Marvin Winston, Oscar Turley, and others. He was employed at the Milan Arsenal and Owens Corning Fiberglass where he retired at its closure. Willie also worked at Pathway for a brief period after retiring from Owens Corning. He joined Bascom C.M.E. Church at an early age and later united with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. He faithfully served on the Mt. Zion deacon board, did many chores around the church and church property, and was also a member of the Mt. Zion Sunday School until his health began to fail. He (Mr. Pete) was a neat, orderly and quiet spoken man who was loved by everyone. He loved to wash and wax his cars and work in the yard and garden. He was also a Dodgers fan and loved to watch westerns on TV. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dovie McLemore and Rockefeller Moten; and his brothers: Robert Moten and Larry Moten. He married the one and only love of his life, Hazel Rooks Moten. Born to this union were five children. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Hazel, children Kenneth (Sheila), Reta (Michael), Willie (Brenda), Ava (Anthony), and Karen; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; siblings Roxanne Moten and Connie Davis. Special cousins (Annie Harris and family, Barbara Singleton and family, Helen Bond and family), Special adopted daughter, Marie Holder and family, and a host of family members and friends to cherish his memory.

So sad to hear of Mr. Moten´s passing. My heart and prayers are with the family during this time. May they find comfort in knowing " to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord" and what a glorious day it will be when we see our Savior face to face.
