SFC (RET.) DEACON EMERITUS WILLIE ROGERS TUTT was born on Thursday, September 25, 1947, to both the late Robert Willie Tutt and Minnie Mae Durham Tutt in Appling, GA. At 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 9, 2024, he peacefully passed away at his home to go be with the Lord.
At an early age, Willie accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He joined and united with the Rehoboth Baptist Church in Appling, GA, where he was baptized. He served as an Usher during his teen years, and later became a Trustee and eventually a Deacon of the church after retiring from the United States Army.
He received his education at the John Pierce Blanchard Consolidated School in Columbia County where he graduated in 1965. After graduating from high school, Willie was drafted by the United States Army, serving in many different regions of the world. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served two tours of duty in the country of Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1986 and soon came back to his hometown of Appling, GA for residency.
He reunited with the Rehoboth Baptist Church and served faithfully as a Trustee and later a Deacon, was a member of the Male Chorus, taught Vacation Bible School, and was an Adult Sunday School Teacher. Willie was a proud Deacon of the Rehoboth Baptist Church for over 30 years where he was ordained under the pastorate of, Reverend Charlie Inman Bennefield. He was undeniably a loyal and trustworthy leader with deep conviction. He possessed an unwavering commitment to mentoring the youth as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts and encouraged countless souls of every age to come to Jesus Christ. As his health begin to fail, he was named Deacon Emeritus of the Rehoboth Baptist Church on December 31, 2023, under the pastorate of Reverend Frederick Gerard Murry.
He was formerly married to the late Deloris Elam Murray, to this union a son, Kenneth J. Tutt, was born. He also reared his bonus sons, Rickey Murray and the late Walter Murray. He later met and married the love of his life, Christine Jones; together with their blended families, he reared Kenneth, Ricky, Craig, and Tina.
Deacon Willie Rogers Tutt, was an excellent entrepreneur in the county of Columbia, GA owning several businesses: Tutt's Convenience Store in Appling, GA; Christy's Restaurant and Catering in Harlem, GA, and Big Boyz BBQ and Seafood Restaurant in Grovetown, GA. He mentored Annie Frails and Ann Nelson in the catering business. They eventually formed Swans Catering Service because of his mentorship. As the years progressed, Willie retired from the restaurant and catering business.
In addition to his parents and son, Willie was preceded in death by his brother, Claude Thomas Tutt. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife, Christine Tutt of Evans, GA; three sons, Kenneth J. Tutt (Bressy Worrell) of Evans, GA, Craig K. Brown (Myra) of North Augusta, SC and Rickey W. Murray (Tracye) of Evans, GA; one daughter, Tina Brown of North Augusta, SC; two brothers, Walker B. Marshall (Gloria) of Evans, GA and Vernon Leo Tutt (Mary) of Evans, GA; one sister, Margaret Tutt Adams of Appling, GA; five grandchildren, Dayana C. Tutt of Atlanta, GA, Ashley N. Tutt of Charlotte, NC, Taylor E. Brown, Joshua Brown, both of North Augusta, SC and Skylar M. Tutt of Evans, GA; a mother-in-law, Lillian Jones of Richmond, VA; a brother-in-law, Larry Jones (Georgetta) of Richmond, VA; a sister-in-law, Inez Curtis of Richmond, VA; one maternal aunt, Vera Durham Green of Augusta, GA; a host of loving cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
