Willie L. Wesley, affectionately known by all as "Gus," peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Born on October 3, 1933, in Campbellton, Florida, Gus was the beloved son of the late Lee and Thelma Kirkland Wesley. He was the eldest of three boys, a protective and guiding older brother to Arlester and Charles, both of whom also preceded him in death.
From an early age, Gus was shaped by the values of faith, family, and hard work. He was educated in the Jackson County School System and received his spiritual foundation at Antioch Baptist and St. John AME Church. His parents instilled in him a strong work ethic that carried throughout his life. As a young man, he labored on the family farm and at the Graceville Sawmill, saving and striving for greater opportunities.
In 1956, Gus took a bold step toward a new life when his uncle LeRoy invited him to relocate to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. There, he discovered his true passions: driving semi-trucks and repairing automobiles. He turned those passions into a lifelong career, spending 30 dedicated years with A. Duie Pyle Trucking Company in West Chester, Pennsylvania, before retiring. Even after long days on the road, Gus could often be found working as an auto mechanic at a local gas station in Bryn Mawr, helping neighbors and friends keep their cars running.
It was in Bryn Mawr that Gus's personal life also blossomed. He met and married O'rene Mayo, and to this union four children were born. Though their marriage ended, Gus and O'rene remained close and supportive of one another sharing a grilled cheese sandwich and a Dr. Pepper. Later, Gus was blessed to share his life with JoAnn Newman, with whom he built a strong and loving relationship and their bond endured faithfully until his passing.
Those who knew Gus will forever remember his easy-going nature, his radiant smile, and his contagious laughter. A man of few words but deep presence, Gus had a way of making people feel at ease. He was generous with his time and always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors alike. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family, especially when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit. Their laughter and energy always brought a special light to his days.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Thelma Wesley; his brothers, Arlester and Charles; and his beloved son, Terry Wesley.
He leaves to cherish his children Carol Sue Speight of San Antonio, TX; Gloria (Forrest) Lassiter of Ardmore, PA; Donna Wesley, Tyrone, GA; Robin Wesley, Wayne, PA; Shelley (Brian) Hoisington of King of Prussia, PA; Joseph Wesley of Bryn Mawr, PA; and Melina Wesley of Laurel MD.
He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one precious great-great-grandchild, along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Though Gus has departed this earthly life, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his warmth, his humor, and his unwavering love.
