Willis Hornsby Obituary

Willis Brown Hornsby, 82, of Madison, Mississippi, passed away peacefully in the arms of his children on August 15, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born October 9, 1942, in Columbus, Mississippi, Will lived a life rich in Christian faith, with family, friendship, and laughter. He shared over 20 years with his beloved partner, Iris "Cookie" Plunkett, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Chad Hornsby, Melissa Jacobsen, and Beebo Lewis; his brother, James (Jim) Hornsby; and five grandchildren, Abigail Hornsby, Mateo Hornsby, Joseph Keane, Colin Keane, and Emma Lewis. He was preceded in death by his partner, Iris Plunkett; his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Brown Hornsby; and his brother, Franklin Hornsby.

Will spent two decades as an independent distributor for Borden Dairy Co. before serving as a manager at Blue Bell Creameries, retiring in 2010. His career was marked by hard work, dedication, and more than a few gallons of ice cream shared along the way.

Outside of work, Will lived life with a spirit of joy and rhythm. He loved to dance-especially to Elvis Presley-and could often be found turning up the music a little louder than his neighbors might have preferred. He was happiest on the water, whether boating or skiing, and he had a special gift for connecting with animals, particularly cats. Known by many as something of a "cat whisperer," he seemed to have a way of drawing them near.

A visitation for Will will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Sebrell Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Sebrell, followed by burial at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Will was fun and easy to love-precious, handsome, and always ready with a smile. His presence brought warmth and laughter to every room, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
