Willis, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Willis proudly served his country in The United States Navy from 1954-1958. After the military, he went on to serve with the Tangipahoa Sheriff's Department as a deputy for 18 years. He was a resident of Hammond, LA. Willis went on to 'Big-Rig' driving, where he was a recipient of the 'Million Mile Safe Driving Award' with J.B. Hunt. He was a devoted LSU and Saints football fan. He was a lover of coffee and sweets- especially his ice cream. Gardening was when Willis was most happy, however, his number one priority was his family. He was proud to care for his "fur-babies" Lil' Bit, Bitsie, and Katie. Willis was such a loving person whose hero was his mother, Gladys. He always put his family first and will be forever missed.
Willis is survived by his wife Glenda Ericksen Jones; sons, Willis Shelton Jones Jr. (Martha), and Daniel Scott Jones; daughters; Shelly Marie Robinson (Carl), and Matina Catania; sister, Essie Marie Kinchen (Jerry); brothers, William Wesley Jones Jr. (Mary Ann) and Allen "Bootsie" Jones (Jackie); grandchildren, Douglas Glen Robinson, Amy Michelle Dimarco (Dominic), Ashley Ann Jones, Joshua Chase Jones (Casey), Ginny Anne Biggerstaff (Heath); and great-grandchildren, Lillian Faye Jones, Hollie Ann Biggerstaff, and Cole Johnston.
Willis is preceded in death by his father, William Wesley Jones Sr.; mother, Gladys Mae Stilley Jones; and sisters, Mary Lou Jones Wakeham and Penny Neal.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Jones, Douglas Robinson, Dominick DiMarco, Carl Robinson, Ken Easley, and Danny Johnson.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401, on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Jimmy Wall will officiate with interment to follow in Blood River Baptist Church Cemetery in Albany.
