Wilma Bean, 101, of St. Joseph passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at Woodland Terrace in St. Joseph. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Inurnment will follow in Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Wilma was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Morland, Kansas, to William and Myrtle (Swisher) Covalt. She was a Rosie the Riveter, riveting airplanes during the war when she met her husband Harry Bean and they married on May 19, 1945, in Wabash, Ind. Wilma worked as an administrator for Michigan Fruit Canners for 13 years as well as Sears for 13 years. Wilma enjoyed golfing, sewing and had a passion for her flower garden.
Wilma is survived by her daughter, Connie Wilder; son, Gary (Linda) Bean; four grandchildren: Michaelene (Vincent) Hultman, Jamie Pascoe, Michelle (Mitch) Meconi and Stephanie Bean; five great-grandchildren: Savannah (Dan) Andrade, Nicholas Meconi, Rachel Hultman, Jessica Hultman and Daniel Hultman and many nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; nine siblings and son-in-law, Terry Wilder.
