Wilma J. Lyons, 80, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on September 18, 2024 Born on February 26, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama, she was the daughter of Willie and Mary (Hudson) Gibson. Wilma accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at early age and became a devoted member of Von Spiegel Baptist Church, located at 34th and Kentucky Street in Louisville.
A graduate of Shawnee High School, Wilma fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse, serving the community for twenty-five years in Louisville and Southern Indiana. Her dedication to her profession was matched only by her commitment to her family, acting as a pillar of strength and support for her mother and loved ones.
Wilma was known for her loving and kind-hearted nature, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is preceded in death by her father, Willie Douglas Gibson; her mother, Mary Lee Walker; and her siblings, Beverly Merriwether and William Gibson.
She is survived by her son, Jerome P. Lyons, Jr.; countless grandchildren; and her siblings, Charles (Mattie) Adams, Steve (Cynthia) Gibson, Mona Robertson, Yolonda Pumphrey, and Frances Pumphrey. Additionally, Wilma leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am, with burial to take place at Green Meadows Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
