Wilma Jean Remmert, 92, of Arizona, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025 in Fountain Hill, Arizona.
Wilma Jean Remmert was born February 22, 1933 to the late Carl and Lucille Hertel in Butts, Missouri.
In 1946, at the age of 13, her family moved to Bourbon, Missouri where her parents opened the family store, "Hertel's Store" where she helped her parents with the book keeping. Here she also attended Bourbon Schools, graduating in the class of 1951. She then furthered her education at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. After her college career, she became a teacher at the Leasburg grade school.
Soon after, she met the love of her life, Henry Remmert, known to his family and friends as "Bud" and together they were united in marriage in November of 1952. Not long after their union, they relocated to Arizona where they would make it their final home.
In Arizona, Bud remained employed with the United States Postal Service and Jean embarked on a 30 year career with the Bank of Arizona. She remained here until her retirement in 1983. Jean was heavily involved within the postal union due to Bud's employment – and she enjoyed playing bingo at the Union Hall in Phoenix. Jean's yellow and ruby grapefruit trees were a testament to her green thumb – always providing sweet produce.
Jean and Bud made sure to visit family in Leasburg each summer and would take an extended stay at the Wagon Wheel Motel. Jean will always be known as a classy woman, always put together with a fresh set of manicured nails and emerald jewelry.
Wilma Jean is survived by her sister, Helen Gramelspacher; a dear friend, Laverne Culver; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews and other friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Bud" Remmert; her parents, Carl and Lucille Hertel; a brother, Fredrick Hertel; and her brother-in-law, Hilary Gramelspacher.
Graveside Services will be 11 AM, May 30, 2025 at Lea Cemetery in Leasburg, Missouri.
Friends may send their online condolences to Jean's family at www.eatonfuneralhome.com
