Wilma Vidlock Obituary

Wilma Jean Vidlock

July 23, 1928 - April 27, 2025

Wilma Jean (Stoehr) Vidlock, age 96, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at Cedar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center.

Wilma was born on July 23, 1928, at Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Alexander and Sarah (George) Stoehr. She graduated from Lincoln High School in January 1947. Wilma furthered her education at the Lincoln School of Commerce, completing her studies in 1948.

A devoted wife and mother, Wilma married the love of her life, Walter Wayne Vidlock, on April 18, 1948, at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Lincoln. Together they built a life filled with love and joy, celebrating 63 wonderful years of marriage.

In 1952, Wilma, Walter, and their young son, David, moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where Wilma later began her career. In 1973 she began working for the State of Wisconsin, and retired from WDOT-railroad division in 1990. In 1998, Wilma and Walter returned to Lincoln, Nebraska, to be closer to family.

Wilma was a woman of strong faith and fellowship. She was a current member of Daughters of the Nile and First-Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, and a former member of the United Church of Christ in Madison and Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter; her parents, Alexander and Sarah; and her sister, Ruthe Shephard. She is survived by her sons, David (Diane) of Cross Plains, WI, Gary (Janice) of Oshkosh, WI, and Robert (Debra) of Lincoln, NE; her grandchildren, Kyle (Catherine Marlow) of Edgerton, WI; Kari Oscar of Belvidere, IL, Connor (Hannah) of Omaha, NE, and Madison of Lincoln, NE; her sister, Donna Marks; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A private family service will be held, and Wilma will be laid to rest next to her husband, Walter, at Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cedar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center for their kind and compassionate care of Wilma throughout the years. The family would also like to thank the team at Endless Journey Hospice for their respectful assistance these last few months.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Shriners Children's Hospitals, First-Plymouth Congregational Church of Lincoln, or the United Church of Christ in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

Your parents and mine were friends. We lived on Doty Street in Madison. Your folks were part of the group that played cards with my parents. Then they moved to the west side of Madison. The card games continued and I still have some of the black and white photos in an album. What I remember most about your Mom how warm and inviting she was when we were at their home. She made some kind of cookie that was to die for too. That cookie was always there on Saturday night! Condolences to your family.

Dear David & Diane, Gary & Janice, and Robert & Debra, Your Mom's obituary was beautifully written and clearly told of her devotion to Walter for 63 years, and care in raising her Boys, her membership in Churches, support for Shriner's Hospital, and her career with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Your care for her was a blessing. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Dave and Pam

My condolences to David, Gary, Roby and their families. Our parents were friends for many of the Lincoln years. The friendship continued with visits after their move to Madison as our maternal family lived "down the road" in Beaver Dam, WI. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
