Winfield L. "Sonny" Peters, 89, of the Alden Station section of Newport Township, passed away Monday morning, October 27, 2025 at Allied Services Center City, Wilkes-Barre after a period of declining health.
Born at home in Drums, he was a son of the late Winfield J. and Hilda M. Stein Peters. He was raised and attended school in Slocum Township and following his marriage to the former Donna Lou Thomas in 1956, they resided in Alden and raised their family.
Winfield established the family business, Winfield Peters Landscaping and Excavating, in 1962, proudly serving the area until his retirement in 2010. Following retirement, he remained active with his son who continues the business as W. Peters Enterprises.
In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, including fishing trips to Canada, as well as visiting relatives in Florida with his wife Donna. He was also liked watching game shows, scratch off lottery and going to the casino.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Lou, in 1984; and a brother, Donald W. Peters in 2025.
He is survived by his children, Donna L. Myers and husband, David J. of Dorrance; Wendy S. Peters, Alden; and Winfield C. Peters and wife, Kathy of Alden; two grandchildren, Winfield S. (Louie) Peters and Chelsea Lou Myers; three great grandchildren, Dylan, Jaxon, and Wesley; a brother, Carl F. Peters of Slocum; and nieces and nephews.
His family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Patrick Kerrigan, as well as the third-floor nursing staff at Allied Services Center City for the wonderful care they provided.
Funeral services will be held Friday at noon from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke with Pastor Scott Miller, of the Slocum United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Hanover Green Cemetery.
Visitation hours will be Friday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
