Wilson Cox Obituary
Published by Legacy on Feb. 23, 2026.
Wilson "Bill" Cox Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 21, 2026, at the age of 89. His life was defined by devotion to family, quiet strength, extraordinary skill, and a deep love for the simple joys that make life meaningful.
Born on June 13, 1936, Bill began his working years in Philadelphia, for Westinghouse and General Electric. His early career reflected what would become a lifelong trademark, precision, patience, and the remarkable ability to understand how things work.
He honorably served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed at White Sands Missile Range and Fort Carson. His time in the Army strengthened the discipline and steady character that would guide him throughout his life.
In 1960, Bill met the love of his life, Doris Metcalf. They were married in July of 1962 and began building their life together in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. Their marriage was a partnership rooted in loyalty, dedication, and deep affection, a love story that endured through the decades, spanning 63 years until the very end.
Bill and Doris were blessed with three sons, Billy, Brian, and Gary (w spouse Laura). In the summer of 1971, the family moved back to Colorado Springs, where Bill continued his career as a machinist. He worked at Jend Industries and later at General Machine, Inc., retiring in 1998 after years of respected craftsmanship. His mechanical talents were exceptional. There was seemingly nothing he could not fix, repair, rebuild, or restore. He did not just solve problems. He taught his sons how to think, troubleshoot, and persevere. His garage was more than a workspace. It was a classroom, a sanctuary, and a place where life lessons were quietly passed down.
Bill took immense pride in his family and cherished time spent visiting his children and later delighting in his five grandchildren. He loved his cars, woodworking projects, and automotive repairs. His hands were rarely still, and his mind was always engaged.
He also had a deep love for music, especially the golden sounds of the 1950s. He built an impressive collection of records and jukeboxes, filling his home with timeless melodies that brought him joy. Among his favorite memories was a treasured trip to Maui, a place that remained special to him for the rest of his life.
Those who knew Bill knew a man of steady presence, quiet capability, and unwavering devotion. His ability to fix almost anything was remarkable, but even greater was his ability to love his wife, children, and grandchildren with constancy and strength.
He leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, resilience, music, laughter, and love. His family will forever carry forward the lessons he taught, not only about machines and tools, but about dedication, responsibility, and the importance of showing up for the people you love.
Wilson "Bill" Cox Jr. will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
