Wilson S. Hess

Wilson S. "Bill" Hess, 96, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on Monday March 2, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Framingham, MA, a son of the late Wilson D. and Frances Scott Hess. He attended local schools and enlisted in the US Air Force at age 17. His career in the Air Force spanned from 1946 until 1966. He received a distinguished service medal and unit citation for service during the Korean War. He retired from the United States Airforce on July 1, 1966.

Wilson was also employed for a time at General Electric in Schenectady, NY. He also was employed for many years for Bill's Awnings in Arizona.

Bill loved watching old westerns. He was also an airplane enthusiast. He gained a love for aircraft while he was in the service where he worked as an airplane mechanic. He was very talented and could fix anything.

He moved to Arizona and married Elizabeth M. McBride on March 29, 2014. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Gary Wilson Hess, of California, his daughter, Mary Frances Hess Strobel of Mesa, Arizona. His wife's children, Carson Ray Creeger and Lillie Leigh McBride. Two grandsons, Duke and Chisum. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Wilson was predeceased by his first wife, Concetta Fraumeni Hess on March 14, 2012. He is also predeceased by his three sisters, Betty Traskos, Barbara Herrick and Dorothy Delarm.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 19, 2026 at 12:00 Noon at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam with the Rev. Kent McHeard presiding. Military honors will be rendered in the funeral home prior to the funeral service at 12:00 Noon Thursday. Private Interment will be in Hagaman Cemetery.
