Winfred Batenhorst

Mass of Christian Burial for Winfred Batenhorst age 104 of Beemer, NE will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE with interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Beemer American Legion Hall. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church with a Vigil Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the family for future designation in Winfred's name.
Winfred passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.
Winfred Batenhorst was born at the farm home of Joe and Anna (Dirkschneider) Batenhorst on February 13, 1920. He attended Cuming Country Rural School District #6. Winfred farmed with his father and brother east of Beemer, NE until his marriage.
On April 18, 1944, he was united in marriage to Beata Kluthe at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Olean, NE. After their marriage, they began farming south of Wisner until 1996, when he retired and moved to Beemer, NE.
Winfred was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, sang in the church choir for 75 years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2272 in West Point, NE. He was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues for 50 years, square danced with Beata for 45 years, and ballroom danced all his life. He enjoyed golfing at Indian Trails Country Club in Beemer, loved to travel and work in his garden and in the yard caring for his flowers. Winfred won many cornhusking contests even into his 90's.

Winfred was preceded in death by his parents-Joe and Anna Batenhorst, wife-Beata Batenhorst on July 13, 2013, brothers-Valen and Dorothy Batenhorst, Richard and Nyla Batenhorst, and Joe Batenhorst, Jr., and sisters-Verna and John Reiman, Ethel and Lumir Ruskamp, and Marcella and Henry Praest.
