Winifred Dunleavy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home - Glastonbury on Jan. 21, 2026.
Winifred Dunleavy, born March 9, 1931, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on January 21, 2026. She immigrated on her own from Ireland to the United States in 1949, first living in Brooklyn, NY with her Aunt Winnie before relocating to Hartford, CT to be near her sister, Noreen Mitchell.

On September 21, 1968, Winifred married James Dunleavy who passed away in 1995. She was the devoted mother of one daughter, Laura Dunleavy. Winifred worked for 16 years for the Glastonbury Board of Education where she was known for her kindness and steady work ethic.

A passionate baker, no one could touch her apple pie creations. She lovingly taught her son in law, Peter Oliver, how to make her famous Irish soda bread. She also treasured time spent with her grandson, Kyle Oliver, and family gatherings were central to her life.

Winifred is survived by her sister, Margaret Mary Egan of Virginia; her daughter, Laura Dunleavy; her son in law, Peter Oliver; and her grandson, Kyle Oliver.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the Dunleavy family on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Winifred's life will be held the same morning at 10:00 am in St. Dunstan Parish, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society.
