Winifred Joan Hargett died peacefully surrounded by her family on September 12, 2025. Joan, affectionately known as "babe" or "baby sister" to many, was born on January 24, 1931 in Memphis, TN, to William Charles Schadrack and Irene Arnoult Schadrack. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George W. Hargett, and her brothers William C. Schadrack, Jr. (Marianne), and Christian P. Schadrack (JoAnn), and her granddaughter Kristin Elizabeth Hargett. She is survived by her sons Steve Hargett (Becky), Chris Hargett (Karin), and Jack Hargett (Darcy) and grandchildren Maggie Riley (Dan), Robbie Hargett, Thomas Hargett, Bo Hargett (Anna Caroline), Katie Hutson (Luke), Tae Hargett, and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joan graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Memphis, TN, where she was editor of the school newspaper. She married George Hargett in 1950 and they were happily married for forty-two years until his death in 1992. They loved big band jazz and ballroom dancing. They were also two of the founding members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Joan will be remembered for her sense of humor and happiness and joy in life. She was a loving ear and confidant to everyone who knew her, both young and old, and was a selfless friend to all who experienced her kindness and compassion.
Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 am Friday September 19, 2025, with the Funeral Mass following at 10:30 am at Holy Rosay Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
