Winnie passed away peacefully, Palm Sunday morning, after living a wonderful life, at the amazing age of 104!
Winnie was born in Hamlin, Texas, November 5, 1919, to Robert Emmet Walker and Mary Etta (Greenway) Walker. She grew up on the family farm, up on the caprock to Hart, Texas, and later in the countryside, near Plainview, along with her six brothers and sisters.
She had some wonderful memories growing up in a large family, as well as hardships, enduring the great depression, and the dust bowl through her teenage years.
She attended a small country school, where she was shy and said she could never read. One time they were having a reading test, and each student had to get up and read a few lines. If they didn't, they would get a whipping, as she put it. However, just as they came to her, the first bell rang, saving the day. She learned to harness her creativity and talents through sewing, hair dressing, and having a strong intuition.
She married Syd Moore in 1951, who had moved to Lubbock from Hollywood, where he was a set designer on the great movie sets, such as Wuthering Heights, Citizen Cane, and many other legendary films. Winnie always said how lucky she was to have met Syd. She would say, "He thought I hung the moon!". They loved each other dearly.
She loved to travel, and had wonderful adventures throughout her life. She visited her grand daughter in Holland, with her son, at the age of 98, a dream she always wanted to visit. A wonderful trip to Hawaii with her two sons, and endless trips to Chile to visit her family.
What really kept her mind active, was playing cards! She played Bridge twice a week, and even at 100, loved to play canasta, or solitaire if no one was around to play.
When asked, "What would you like to be remembered for?" Winnie thought a minute and then said, "for my sewing". She will be remembered for her wonderful sewing talents, and so many more creative talents, and as the best Mom in the world! Her strong Christian values have been passed down to her sons and grandkids, with family first and looking after friends and neighbors.
Winnie is survived by her two sons, Charles Patrick and Robert Sydney, her two grand-kids, Michelle Andre and Felipe Sydney, her two daughter-in-laws, Jacqueline and Priscilla, her step son and daughter, John (Mike), and Kathi, and step grandkids, Jason and Jennifer. As well as her large family of nephews and nieces.
Preceded in death by her husband, Sydney A Moore, her brothers Bruce, Charles, Preston, Lucy, Linnie, and Helen. Her Father and Mother, Robert Emmet and Mary Etta.
Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home, Friday, March 29
Grave side services will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park, in Lubbock, at 9:30am, Saturday, Followed by a Memorial Service at Second Baptist Church, 10:30am, Saturday,
