Obituary For Winona Jeannine Turner Coppage
May 6, 1931 - November 14, 2025
With profound love and deep sadness, our family announces the passing of Winona Jeannine Turner Coppage, who left this world peacefully on November 14, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on May 6, 1931, Winona lived a long, beautiful life filled with grace, generosity and the quiet strength that touched everyone who knew her.
Winona's unwavering faith in Jesus Christ shaped every chapter of her life. Born and raised in Independence, Kentucky she was a pillar in the community. She lived her beliefs through compassion and a heart at all times turned toward service. Although her heart was without fail in serving her family, she always found countless ways to serve the community by her generosity to the church and to
The Salvation Army. For many years, she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, guiding others with tenderness, patience and the kind of faith that shines through example more than words. Her generosity extended far beyond her own community. Winona gave joyfully to missions around the world; believing deeply in helping others and sharing God's love wherever it was needed.
She also dedicated countless hours to volunteering in the Psychiatric Department at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington where her gentle presence brought comfort to people walking through some of their most difficult moments. Winona had a rare way of making others feel seen, valued and loved.
Winona loved traveling, embracing each new destination with curiosity and delight. She cherished all things Kentucky and especially cheering on Kentucky Basketball. Some of her happiest memories were made while shopping with her daughter, daughters-in-law and granddaughters, where laughter, stories and meaningful time together became cherished traditions. She was also very proud of her hard-working sons and their dedication to the family business, Coppage Construction Company.
Winona is now rejoicing in heaven with her beloved husband, William Russell Coppage; her parents, Mary Emma B'Hymer Turner and Ratliff Allen Turner; her longtime companion Herbert Works; and her great granddaughter Isabel Gooch, all of whom preceded her in death.
Winona leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever carry her legacy forward. She is survived by her children Russ Coppage (Deborah), Janice Mortenson, Michael Coppage (Pamela), and Timothy Coppage(Jeannie); all of whom she loved deeply and who brought her immeasurable pride.
Winona's grandchildren, who brought her endless joy include Jaycee Booth (Darin), Brent Coppage (Rebecca), Arin Staples (Nick), Brandon Coppage (Kendra), Matthew Coppage (Ashley), Abby Howell (LJ), Adam Coppage and Preslee Gooch (Matthew).
She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren: Morgan, Jaxin (Mya), Madison, Mia, Colston, Winston, Langston, Laynie, Talin, Lewis, Stanley, Eleanor, Finnley, Camden, Walker, Dallas, Brooklyn, Taylor, Isla and Jack. And with deep joy she welcomed great-great grandchildren Emerson, Nina and Noah.
She is also survived by her sister Norma Ward (Carl) and their children Dennis Ward (Heather) and Tammy Bravo (Rick).
Winona treasured her family above anything and her unwavering love binds each of the five generations together. She was the heart of our family, the epitome of grace and elegance, and a woman whose beauty radiated from both her spirit and her presence. We will miss her soft laughter, her steady encouragement, her deep faith and the warmth she brought to every room. We take comfort in knowing that her life was full, her impact lasting and her love enduring. Her legacy lives on in the people she loved so deeply.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at Hickory Grove Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Friends and family will gather to find solace in one another's company and honor Winona. Please come to share stories and memories from 10:00 AM until shortly before the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM.
