Sharon Louise McDonald, née Luebbe, 70, of Verona, KY, passed away unexpectedly at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Edgewood, KY on November 3, 2025. Born on August 5, 1955, in Covington, KY, she was the daughter of the late Ed Luebbe and Celine Lindeman Luebbe.
Sharon was raised in Florence, KY and graduated from Boone County High School. She met the love of her life, Bob McDonald, while working in Erlanger at Super America. Sharon purchased her family's business, Safari Campground. Bob and Sharon transformed the site and renamed it Oak Creek Campground. Industrious to her core her entire life, Sharon could always be found on the grounds, weed eating and maintaining its neat appearance. Multitudes of Kentucky and Tri-State families enjoyed the peaceful wooded surroundings of Oak Creek. It was extremely difficult for Sharon to retire, but she eventually did, taking more quality time with her family.
Sharon was not only a respected businesswoman but a fixture and well-known face in the communities of Walton and Verona. She served on the Walton Fire Department Board as well as Walton City Council. With each holiday season, Walton and Verona businesses could expect their usual Christmas cookie delivery from Sharon-tins brimming with buckeyes, no-bake cookies and bourbon balls.
A maternal presence for many, Sharon is remembered by her family and her grandkids' friends as "everyone's grandma." While she was often a source of love, support, and wisdom, she was equally one of discipline and direction. Honest, frank, and forthright to a tee, Sharon spoke plainly to everyone she met or knew, be it personally or professionally. Sharon's absence will be deeply felt but her memory will live on, especially in those campground woods and on Walton's main street.
Sharon was the beloved mom of Dana Goldsberry and Bobby (Katie) McDonald; dear sister to Shauna Fruggiero, Lori Ewing, Ed Luebbe, Larry Luebbe, and Tom Luebbe; treasured grandma to Isabelle Chapman, Rae-Lynn Nunn, Skyler Nunn, Brittany Asher, Austin (Gracie Stamper)Asher, Madelynn McDonald, Kennedey McDonald, Peyton McDonald, and Parker McDonald as well as great-grandma to both Lucas Bass and Waylon Asher. Sharon was greeted in the great hereafter by her parents, son-in-law Jeremy "Biggin" Goldsberry and her husband Bob McDonald.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11351 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
