Woodrow David "Woody" Blevins, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 21, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel. Woody will be laid to rest next to his wife, Sue, at Tannehill Cemetery in a private burial.
Born in the heart of the Blue Community on January 16, 1938, to Jasper and Virgie (Edwards) Blevins, Woody's life was a testament to the values of hard work and family.
Woody's early years were spent on the family homestead, where he developed a love for the land, raising cattle and horses. Woody's career took him across the country as he worked on the high-line, building the electrical infrastructure that powers our nation. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's Union.
Woody married Geraldine Daniels, with whom he had three sons, and later found love again with Patricia "Sue" Rowell. Woody's legacy is carried on by his sons: David Blevins and wife, Karin of McAlester; Darrell Blevins of Tulsa; and Thomas Blevins and wife, Donna of Broken Arrow.
He is also survived by step-daughter, Darlene Rowell of McAlester; grandchildren: Woodrow Blevins, Kaylin Strauss and husband, Tyler, Madison Blevins, and Michael Blevins; great grandchildren: Adelyn Byington, Kyler Strauss, Paytyn Strauss, and Jordan Strauss; sister, Clyda Lee Adkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Woody was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia "Sue" (Rowell) Blevins; the mother of his sons, Geraldine (Daniels) Blevins; his parents, Jasper and Virgie Blevins; and his siblings: Frank, Suda, Cleve, Linny, Gracie, Lizzie, Gilbert, Granville, Helen, Opal, Catherine, Stella Louise, Ima Jane, Robert, and Della Mae.
Beyond his work and family, Woody was known for his passion for horses. He embodied the spirit of a hardworking, hard-core cowboy, and his love for the equestrian lifestyle was evident to all who knew him. Woody's hands were as strong as his heart, and he approached every task with determination and grit.
