Woodrow William Farley, Jr (Woodie), 88 from Mullens, WV, passed peacefully in the arms of Jesus, surrounded by his family, on December 10, 2025. He was born in Vivian, WV on February 22, 1937.
Woodie was the son of the late Woodrow Sr and Mildred Farley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis Farley; his son James Farley; his sister, Lois Saranzak; and two great-grandchildren, Levi William and Kiera Brooke Echard.
Woodie proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Bristol (DD-857) from 1955-1963. During his service, he was able to see the world and loved sharing his stories with everyone he met, never missing an opportunity to show off his Navy tattoos. Following his military service, Woodie began his mining career in 1965, later becoming a superintendent at multiple mines before retiring in 1995 from National Mine.
Woodie is survived by his loving partner, Betty Edward’s; his daughter, Patricia Cook (Frank), who was like a son to him; two step-sons, Nathan Edwards (Amanda) and Eric Edwards (Celena); eight grandchildren, Krissy Kinsley (Joe), Cortney Echard (Tyler), Chelsea Cook (Tad), Katie Hatfield (Ethan), Hannah Edwards, Seth Gwinn, Erica Parker (Brian), and Austin Edwards (Stephanie). 4 great grandchildren, Logan and Allie Green, Colton and Mila Echard; one brother, Danny Farley (Barbara); three sisters, Reva Graham, Connie Ray, and Judy Smith; and a sister-in-law, Karen Holsten, along with many nieces and nephews who were all so special to Woodie.
Woodie was lovingly known as “Poppy” to everyone who knew him. His greatest achievement in life was his family, and he cherished every moment he was able to spend with them.
Pallbearers will be Danny Boy Farley, Joe Kinsley, Bradley Farley, Tyler Echard, Tad England, Ethan Hatfield, Logan Green, and Colton Echard.
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill with Pastor Derek Sesco officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home in Oak Hill.
For those wishing to attend the Graveside service you can meet at 2:00 pm at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
