Woodrow William "Billy" Moore, 77, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family. Billy was born on January 28, 1948, to the late Woodrow Moore and the late Effie Gilroy Moore.
Billy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Hudson Moore; his daughters, Jennifer Moore Ledford and her husband Billy, and Elizabeth Moore Blake and her husband William; his grandchildren, William Ledford IV, Megan Ledford, Emma Blake and Abby Blake; his brother, Sherwood Moore; his sister, Carolyn Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Cooksey.
After graduating from La Plata High School in 1966, Billy completed a 4-year carpenter apprenticeship program at the Naval Base in Indian Head. He worked at the Naval Base and also at Stump Neck before going to work at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in 1973. When he retired he was the Foreman of the Carpentry, Paint and Masonry Shop at the BEP. He worked for the Federal Government for 37 years. After his retirement he started his own home improvement business, Woody's Precision Carpentry.
When Billy was a teen-ager and young adult he was very involved with the activities of the Chicamuxen United Methodist Church. After he married, Billy became a very active member of Marbury Baptist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon, a Trustee and was on numerous committees over the years. He worked in the church office as the Secretary and Treasurer for 9 years. He loved the Lord and read his Bible daily.
Billy loved working outside and in his garage. He enjoyed woodworking and building projects. He welcomed any opportunity to use his John Deere tractor. He loved spending time with his family.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4. All of the services will be at Raymond Funeral Service in La Plata. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf. The Rev. Tim Bean will officiate. A repast will be held at Marbury Baptist Church following the interment.
