Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stuart Mortuary, Inc. - Indianapolis from Nov. 13 to Nov. 23, 2021.
Wydell James Brownlow Jr. was born on March 8, 1968 to parents, Arleen (Ballard) Posley and Wydell Brownlow Sr. in Indianapolis, Indiana. He grew up on the westside of Indianapolis surrounded by a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins at 553 Eugene Street and later moved to the near eastside neighborhood at 37th and Guilford under the loving guidance of his mother and stepfather, Papa George, as well as his Father Wydell Sr. At an early age Wydell, loving known as "Horse" was popular, well known, and fun loving. It was also at an early age that he took on one of his most important titles as the confidant and protector of his younger brother Darrick.
Educated in the Indianapolis Public School System through eighth grade, Wydell was a strong athlete. Wydell's athletic skills led him to complete his secondary education at Cathedral High School. A very proud Cathedral Alumni, he participated in varsity basketball from 1983 until graduation in 1986. From graduation on, Wydell participated in a host of Cathedral events and gatherings with his fellow Irish Alumni. Post high school, Wydell attended ITT Technical Institute graduating with a degree in electrical engineering.
On August 24, 1996, he married his longtime girlfriend, Michelle. To this union two daughters, Maya Simone and Alliyah Michelle Brownlow were born.
Wydell began his career as a Journeyman Electrician for Barth Electrical and Steel Dynamics. Later, he became an entrepreneur, owning and operating "Iron Horse Transportation." He expanded his entrepreneurial spirit to real estate buying, refurbishing, and selling real estate.
Wydell's family liked to joke that he knew at least half of Indianapolis! He loved spending time with friends and family. He loved gatherings and could be counted on to spontaneously call to let his family and friends know that he was throwing ribs, chops, sausages, and turkey legs on the grill. Wydell enjoyed life especially when playing a game of Dad, Tonk, and Poker; he even enjoyed an occasional round of golf with his uncles and brother.
Perhaps more than anything, Wydell was known by all as a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father who truly cherished his girls. Indeed, his entire family counted on him for the knowledge he gave so lovingly and freely, his guidance was a foundation for his entire family. His nieces and nephew always counted on "uncle" to walk through the door with gifts every Christmas and on each of their birthdays; he never missed one. His family especially and all who knew him were touched by his kindness, humor, and mild temperament. He was known and highly regarded as a truly a bright light and a constant source of positivity.
Wydell James Brownlow Jr. passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2021 at the age of 53 years. Wydell was preceded in death by his grandmother, Hosie Brownlow; father, Wydell Brownlow Sr. and stepfather, George Allen Posley.
He is survived by his mother, Arleen Posley; wife, Michelle; daughters, Maya and Alliyah; longtime companion, Kelly Anderson; brother, Darrick (Kristy); nieces, Bailey and Blaire; nephew, Blake, and a host of relatives and special friends.
