Yer Vang (N. Tooj Pov Hawj) was born in the village of Quav Txhis on January 1, 1968. She is the youngest of 8 siblings: Blia Pao, Blong, Nhia Lor, Moua, Xai Kao, Wa Lee, Her, and Ploua. Yer's father's name is Chong Yang and her mother's name is Ia.
In 1987, Yer immigrated to the United States from the refugee camp in Vinai and made her way to the city of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Shortly after, she met Tong Pao Herr and got married in December 1989 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. They would then have five children: Vang Shoua, Yue Peng, Chue Chee, Meng, and Yulai. Yer and Tong Pao have nine grandchildren: Yugene, Mila, Noelle, Nahlia, Grace, Leon, Levi, Liam, and Luke.
Yer would live her final years as a widow when she lost her husband in 2020 due to cardiac arrest. Yer also suffered from two strokes and was later diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. Due to her health, she required assistance in her daily life and would be primarily taken care of by son, Meng. Yer passed away on July 22, 2024, where she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and her sister. Yer is loved by many because of her inspiring story as a mother, as a cancer patient, and as a believer of Christ.
Funeral Services are at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and doors open at 9:30 am. Service begins at 10 am.
