Yolanda Gross Butler age 88 of Mantee, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, Mississippi. Yolanda was born on February 12, 1937, in Tibbee, Mississippi to Robert E. Lee and Donnie Mae. Yolanda was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in June 1952, and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Starkville, Mississippi. Yolanda was widely known for sharing her faith with everyone she met. In 1952, Yolanda married Marvin Butler in Tupelo, Mississippi. The Butlers went on to have four children: Marvin Gerald, Nina, Vicky, and Linda. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Savannah Water Association. Yolanda was also a skilled seamstress, an avid gardener, and an excellent cook. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her other hobbies included scrapbooking, crosswords, and jigsaw puzzles. Mrs. Butler is survived by her two daughters, Nina Kaktins of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Linda Butler of Mantee, Mississippi; two sisters, Thomasine 'Tomi' (Evo) Novak of Reno, Nevada and Joann Gross Hill of Marianna, Florida; four brothers, Hildred (Sandra) Hayes of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Bill Gross of Tallahassee, Florida, Ray (Linda) Gross of Tallahassee, Florida, and Edward Gross of Fountain, Florida; seven grandchildren: Betsy Butler, Melinda Butler, Melanie Butler, Travis Birck, Artemis Dove, Sheila (Joshua) Kassouf, and Gary (Rebecca) Westphal; six great-grandchildren: Sancia, Isabell, Joey, Owen, Noah, and Melody. Yolanda was a maternal figure to many throughout the years, and she is also survived by her honorary son Avery Actkinson. She is preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Marvin B. Butler; one daughter, Vicky Lynn Butler Waters; one son, Marvin Gerald Butler; both parents, Robert E. Lee Gross and Donnie Mae Dove Schumpert; her stepfather, Willie Thomas "Baker' Schumpert; four sisters and two brothers. The family will receive friends and loved ones for a time of visitation on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Oliver Funeral Home in Eupora, Mississippi. A private burial will be held at Marvin Hill Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery in Cumberland, Mississippi and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 117 Reed Road, Starkville, Mississippi 39759. The family would like to extend their appreciation to NMMC Eupora staff, Dr. Vowell, and NMMC Hospice for their support and to the many neighbors and friends for their love and encouragement. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is honored to be entrusted with all arrangements for the Butler family.
